I'm pretty good at a lot of artsy and craftsy things, but my sewing skills are very basic! But when my mom showed me how to make a fabric banner using chalkboard fabric, I thought, “now that’s a sewing project simple enough that even I could do it!” And if I can do it, then anyone can! So today I'm excited to show you just how easy it is to make your own DIY pennant banner with reusable chalkboard fabric that you can write on and wipe off over and over to decorate for any special ... {one room challenge} Cement Tile Inspiration & Decision Making
Welcome back to Week 2 of the One Room Challenge. Last week, I shared the before photos of my master bathroom and my graphic glam mood board for the space. This week it's all about all about the tile - and I'm really curious to hear your opinions! I don't know if I was living under a rock, or what, but two months ago I didn't know about cement tile. What I did know is that everywhere I turned I kept seeing photos of gorgeous, graphic tile patterns. I got it in my head that this was ... View the Post
{seasonal style} No Carve Pumpkin People
I'm so excited to introduce you to the pumpkin people representation of my cute little family: Last weekend we took our boys to the Rock Creek Farm Pumpkin Patch. The weather was gorgeous, we were able to get some super cute photos of Beckett and Cooper. And we even managed to get a few family photos. We came home from the pumpkin patch with four pumpkins - one sized according to each member of our family. Since the boys are obviously too young for pumpkin ... View the Post
Easy DIY Lumiere Costume from Beauty & the Beast
My boys love Disney movies, and Beauty and the Beast is one of their favorites. Last year, Beckett and Cooper announced in March that they wanted to be Lumiere and Gaston for Halloween, but I didn't think much of it because I assumed they'd change their minds twenty times by the time the holiday rolled around. But when it got to be October and they were still set on the Beauty and the Beast theme, I realized I'd better get their costumes figured out! I started with a quick online search and ... {seasonal style} Reverse Those Jack O’Lanterns for Thanksgiving
I always enjoy finding ways to repurpose things, but if there's one thing even better than repurposing - it's finding a way to make one item do double duty! And that's the story of my Peek-A-Boo Jack O'Lanterns, which are now also a part of my Thanksgiving decor! Last year I really wanted to buy some craft pumpkins, but I just couldn't bring myself to pay the high prices at the craft stores. I mentioned my frustration with the $25+ price tags to my mom, and earlier this fall she called to ... View the Post

{organizing with style} Managing Kitchen Paper Piles with a Simple Filing System
One of the blogs that inspired me to start my own was iHeartOrganizing. This year, iHeart’s Jen is issuing a monthly organizing challenge, and February is focused on the kitchen. While I certainly need to give my pantry a major overhaul, I just knew I wouldn’t be able to complete that project this month - and fortunately in the meantime it’s behind a closed door. So I instead decide to participate in Jen’s challenge by tackling a smaller problem, but one that’s out in the open - our ... View the Post
{organizing with style} Tips for Proper Paint Storage, Disposal, and Recycling
We recently completed Project Paint Storage at our house, which included transferring all of our latex paint into plastic, screw-top canisters with labels, creating a customized paint deck, completing paint reference charts, compiling a kit to make organizing new paint quick and easy in the future, and finally organizing and storing all of our other painting supplies in our utility room. During the course of this project, we did a lot of research regarding ... View the Post
How to Properly Store, Dispose Of, and Recycle Paint and Paint Cans
As a serial DIYer, I'm always repainting the walls in our house, and painting just about everything else in sight with spray paint. That leaves us with a lot of leftover paint and, in time, a lot of empty paint cans. We have a very small utility room and a detached, unheated garage, so I had a lot of questions about how and where I could safely store my leftover paint, and how to properly dispose of paint and paint cans. I did a lot of research regarding both paint storage and disposal options, ... View the Post
{seasonal style} Modern Peek-A-Boo Pumpkins
Today I want to share the easy tutorial for one of the projects that you saw in my Halloween Home Tour last Friday - my modern peek-a-boo Jack O'Lantern pumpkins! If you've been out shopping recently, you've probably noticed that these craft carving pumpkins are sold just about everywhere - from your local craft stores, to Home Depot, to Walmart - but the prices vary widely. I originally looked at some white craft pumpkins at Michaels and Hobby Lobby, but I just couldn't justify the $25+ ... View the Post
{organizing with style} Washi Tape Shelves
Last week I showed your our organized "baby elevator closet" (if you want to know why we call it that, you'll have to check out that post), and you may have noticed the colorful stripes on the front of each of the shelves. Washi tape! It's hard to believe that just a few months ago I had never used washi tape for anything, and now it makes its way in to nearly every project I do. I love my label maker, and it's always been my go to when I've needed to label ... View the Post
Organizing Cords & Cables
I've been working on several big organizing projects recently, one of which is organizing all a hall closet that houses, among other things, all of our small electronics - everything from cameras and video cameras, to iPods, iPads and portable speaker. And every one of these items comes with at least one, if not two or more, cords and cables. The closet organizing project is still a work in progress, but I did just complete one key component - taming all of those cords and cables! I'm sure ... View the Post
