The “My Home Style” blog hop is hosted by the lovely Stephanie of Casa Watkins, and it kicked off yesterday with seven talented ladies. Today the event continues with 7 more bloggers, and now it’s my turn to share my own personal home style!
If you’ve just hopped over from My Life From Home {or from any of the other participating blogs} – WELCOME! I’m so glad you’re here and I’m excited to show you my style…
I’m sure there is a design textbook definition of modern, but when I look around our home, modern shines through first and foremost in our furnishings – both in style and in color. Without exception, every piece of furniture in our home is black, grey, white, or nearly-black venge wood. The lines of the furniture are sleek and simple – leaning toward mid-century in style.
In the kitchen, I’m actually getting a bit tired of the glass dining table that we’ve had for over ten years, but it’s so kid friendly that I can’t part with it just yet. Glass and kid friendly?! I know that statement will make some people shake their heads and roll their eyes – and it’s true that I do have to Windex it daily to combat millions of fingerprints – but our glass table really is ideal for our frequent arts and crafts projects. It’s so easy to wipe off the paint, markers and glue that are bound to make their way from the paper onto the table – nothing can stain the glass. And, unlike wood, I never have to worry about it getting dented if the kids write too hard with their colored pencils. The black leather-like chairs are equally easy to wipe off and much more practical with littles than upholstery would be.

Hi, Angela! We should have hung out at Haven. Love your home and we share similar design ideas if not styles, although I'm a modern art junkie, too. The Modern in Fort Worth has a very impressive collection, and I can usually bribe my family into going with me if I give them brunch. I agree with your position on decorating a home with kids. My girls were allowed in every part of the house when they were little and learned to respect our possessions. People would tell me it didn't look like kids lived in the home and I'd show them their rooms and shelves in the living room where they kept their toys. Really enjoyed seeing your home!

I really enjoyed seeing more of your home! I love how there is something interesting to see everywhere you turn. Our styles are pretty different but we share a love of color and big bold art. I also love how you incorporate your boys in your decor.

I saw your moodboard and my jaw dropped…honestly…you are so cool. I really enjoyed learning about your style and I like how different you are, I have yet to see someone with a modern "eye" like yours. I love that little reading nook. Absolutely stunning!

I love your home, and how well you have managed to make it both beautiful and kid friendly. That's my constant goal around my house. So far so good, but I bet my son would love an entire wall to draw on! Thank you for sharing!

You are, hands down, my new idol. I love your home so much. It makes me cringe to hear people say it doesn't look like kids live here, and I am so glad you discussed the whole family part. I was trying to pick out a couple of projects I love, but I seriously love every single one – from the kitchen to the awesome basement, family room, bathrooms and boys rooms – absolutely stunning. I've been by your blog a couple of times, but I'm so glad we did this little hop because you are now one of my very favorites. Okay, gushing over. Awesome house. 🙂
