Drab to Fab Project with the Denver Home Show

I’ve been working hard on a fun project behind the scenes, and decided it was time to share a few details. I’m in the process of giving four pieces of thrift store furniture some seriously dramatic makeovers – and the finished pieces will be on display next month at the Denver Home Show for a feature called Drab to Fab!
Denver Home Show Drab to Fab

The Denver Home Show – and similar Home Shows around the country – is THE place to find innovate products, new ideas, practical advice and great deals in remodeling, home improvement and decor.
As some of you may remember, last year I was invited to be a guest speaker at the Denver Home Show. I seriously questioned whether anyone would want to sit and listen to me talk about organizing for 45 minutes at a time… but I had large, engaged audiences, and it was a great experience! {Read my full wrap up from last year’s Home Show.}
Plus I got to share the stage with Matt Muenster, for HGTV’s Bath Crashers! All in all it was a very fun way to spend a weekend!
So when Marketplace Events, the company that coordinates the Home Shows, asked me if I’d like to participate in the show again this year by putting together a Drab to Fab feature, I jumped at the chance.
Over the course of the last few months, I’ve been scouring thrift stores and the “free” section of our neighborhood website for just the right furniture pieces to make over. Here’s what I found…
I’m going to be giving this basic oak desk a glam navy blue and gold makeover, and I have a very special plan for the top!

This chair will coordinate with the desk, but it will be a statement piece all its own! I can’t wait to show you the fabric I picked for the cushion!

You might recognize this table…it seems like just about everyone has one of these basic IKEA models. I’m going to give this table a pretty makeover, of course, but since I love to combine style and function, it will be doing double duty as both side table and a magazine holder!

This little cabinet is the final piece I picked up, and it has definitely seen better days. I’ll be replacing the broken casters and the removing the doors. When I’m through with it, it will be a very fabulous bar cart ready for summer entertaining!

Not only does this Drab to Fab project give me a great opportunity to work with the Denver Home Show again, it also gives me a chance to partner with one of my favorite brands! All of my furniture makeovers are being sponsored by Rust-Oleum and they are providing all of the products I need to transform these pieces from Drab to Fab!
I’m very excited to try out some new-to-me Rust-Oleum products that I’ve been just itching to play with… like their chalked paint, dry erase paint, and even a paint that creates the look of a granite counter top!
Over the course of the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing photos of the finished pieces, together with detailed supply lists and tutorials.
UPDATE! Want to see how each Drab to Fab makeover turned out?

If you are in the Denver area, you should definitely put the Denver Home Show on your calendar for the weekend of March 18-20! The show is held at the Nation Western Events Complex, and I’ve got discounted tickets for you! Click on the button below to receive $3 off the normal ticket price with promo code: BLUE
Be sure to follow along with me on Facebook and Instagram, where I’ll be sharing some sneak peeks of these furniture makeovers, as well as photos from the Denver Home Show!
