How Mood Boards Become Real Rooms

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
I really enjoy the design process – and a few weeks ago I showed you how easy it is to create your own mood board to kick start your next design project – but there is nothing more satisfying than seeing a design plan become reality.
Right now, we are elbow deep in our master bathroom makeover – very much in the it get’s worse before it gets better phase. Since we’ve still got a few more weeks of major mess ahead of us before the space will come together, I started thinking that it might be fun in the meantime to take a look back at some of my past room makeovers to see how the design plans translated into real life spaces.

Let’s start with the very first mood board I ever created… way back when I was pregnant with my first son. I wanted to plan a colorful safari themed nursery in a cool, relaxing color palette with pops of brighter colors. After spending so much time in this room for the past four years, it’s really fun to look back at how it all began. {See all the nursery photos and details}

From my first mood board, to my most recent…here’s the design plan I created for our laundry closet makeover a few months ago. The bright green boxes and white brick wall paper were my initial inspiration for this space, and the space grew from there. {See all the laundry room and linen photos and details}

Ooooh…this is one my favorites! After our second son was born, I decided to design a “big boy room” for big brother, so that little brother could have the safari nursery. After coming up with three drastically different mood boards for the space {including a beach bum mood board, and a transportation-themed mood board}, I finally settled on a vintage preppy menswear themed space perfect for a little gentleman. {See all the menswear boy’s room photos and details}

Here’s a mood board I’ve been referring back to a lot lately. About a year and a half ago, I made over our master bedroom, and the work that’s currently taking place in our mastr bathroom is with the goal of making it better match the style of the bedroom. As I created my plans for the bathroom, I kept coming back to this bedroom mood board to create a similar look and feel. {See all the master bedroom photos and details}

Last, but certainly not least, let’s take a look at how my rock and roll inspired mood board translated into a very cool playroom for my boys under the basement stairs. {See all the master bedroom photos and details}

I don’t know about you, but I think it’s pretty fun to watch design plans materialize into a real room! And it makes me so excited to be doing it all again in our bathroom. In case you missed it, here’s the mood board for the master bathroom makeover.

I’m posting my progress updates on this bathroom each Thursday, and I’ll be revealing the completed space on May 12th. If you are not already, I’d love to have you follow along on the journey!
