The boys are four and five now, and if I could freeze time, I would. These are such fun ages, and I love how excited they get about everything – especially each holiday! For weeks, they’ve been begging me to decorate for Halloween. We always have quite a bit of holiday decor inside, but this year they also requested front porch Halloween decorations as well.

Last year, I decorated the porch with some fun Dia de Los Muertos finds, but the boys really wanted a traditional Halloween porch decorations this time around. I’m quickly running out of storage space for our ever-growing collection of holiday decor, so I decided to see what I could come up with using stuff we already had in the house.

After some tweaking and rearranging, I’m going to call this a mom-win, because I love how our Halloween front porch turned out, and more importantly, so do the boys!

Let me show you how we’ll be welcoming all the ghosts and goblins this Halloween…

For years, I struggled with how to decorate our front porch for the holidays, because it’s two stories tall, but no wider than our front doors. This configuration left me stumped because thins like pumpkins just look dwarfed by the height of the porch. I’ve always loved porches with decor flanking either side of the front door, but our narrow porch and double doors don’t allow for that.

Last year, we trying to overcome this dilemma for decorating the porch for Thanksgiving, I found a three-tiered plant stand that allowed me to add height and layers to the porch in front of our stationary door, without making the porch feel over-crowded. I decided to try out the plant stand again this Halloween, and it worked perfectly!

How adorable are those peek-a-boo color pumpkins?! I made them a few years ago by carving faux pumpkins from the craft store and painting the inside of each in a different color {tutorial here}… but until now I’ve never found a good way to display them. In the past, I’ve lined them up on my entry table, but sitting in one long line they just never quite made the statement I was hoping for.

To give the porch a cozy fall feel, I tossed a piece of plaid fabric over the shelves. It’s an unexpected touch, but I love teal for every season, and it nicely compliments my teal pumpkin, as well as my labeled mailbox and milk box on the porch.

The five peek-a-boo pumpkins weren’t quite enough to fill the shelves, so I also added a few other faux pumpkins from my collection. I love that the black ones help to break up the white, and a couple of smaller ones tie in with other colors in the display.

All of these faux pumpkins have the added bonus of lasting all season without rotting or attracting critters, plus I can use them again year after year.

After adding all of the pumpkins, I felt like I still needed one more element to add a little variety and height. I found a white lantern in the garage, and dug through my prop closet looking for something to fill it with. I was thinking some black and white flowers from last year’s Dia de los Muertos decor, but Beckett came up with a better idea – some bats on floral wire that I had picked up on clearance.

<img decoding="async" class="aligncenter" title="HALLOWEEN FRONT PORCH! Decorating the porch is all about scale and layers. Check out these front porch Halloween decoration ideas to help you get the right balance!

We put one set of bats inside the lantern, and the other set coming out the top. I love when the kids come up with the best solutions!

<img decoding="async" class="aligncenter" title="HALLOWEEN FRONT PORCH!

Last but not least, the peacock feather wreaths on the doors look great with the black and teal tones! These are my favorite fall wreaths of all time, and you might recognize them from my front door makeover post around this time last year. {Here’s my tip for hanging wreaths without damaging your door}.

In the late afternoons, as the sun starts to set, our metal railing creates the coolest zig zagging shadows on our front steps. I love how they add to overall Halloween look!

<img decoding="async" class="aligncenter" title="HALLOWEEN FRONT PORCH!

You might notice that there is a bit of a purple glow coming from the porch light… that’s one more fun detail that I’ll talk more about soon! The boys are having fun changing the color from purple, to green, to red, trying to decide which looks the spookiest in the dark!

<img decoding="async" class="aligncenter" title="HALLOWEEN FRONT PORCH!

Luckily I got these photos taken just before the snow arrived this morning. Thank goodness for our covered porch that’s keeping my cute pumpkins dry!

I am so excited to officially welcome spring! Warmer weather, longer days, and…pink!

The first signs of leaves and blossoms are just starting to appear in our yard… but spring has officially sprung on my front porch, thanks to my friends at Hobby Lobby who are sponsoring my “April Showers Bring May Flowers” inspired front door decor.

I went shopping for craft supplies to create some sort of wreath or front door display, but I came out away with a whole lot more. I’m not going to lie…I tend to have that problem pretty much every time I walk in to Hobby Lobby. In the end, not only did my front doors get a makeover, the whole porch is sporting a cheery new spring vibe.

Before we get to the whole porch, though, let’s start with the front door decor that I created. I originally envisioned making a wreath of some sort, but when I spotted an end cap full of brightly colored umbrellas, I immediately knew I needed to fill them with flowers!

I chose two turquoise and blue umbrellas, eight bunches of pink tulips, two bunches of mini pink flowers, and one roll of pink satin and sheer wire edged ribbon.

You guys, turning umbrellas into “wreaths” could not be easier. I love a good 5 minute project… but this is more like a two minute project!

In order to keep the umbrellas upright while I filled them with flowers, I started by propping them up between the cushions of the couch.

I placed four bunches of pink tulips in each umbrella, as well as one bunch of pink mini flowers for a bit of extra height.

Finally, I added a ribbon about half way down each umbrella. I double-knotted the ribbon to hold it securely in place, then tied a simple bow. And that’s it!

I hung my umbrella wreaths on my front doors using two large white Command hooks.

<img decoding="async" title="April showers bring may flowers, and these umbrella wreaths full of pink tulips bring a cheerful touch of spring to the front door!

Our front doors are extra tall, making regular wreaths often look a bit small. But these bold and bright umbrella wreaths are just the perfect scale!

<img decoding="async" title="April showers bring may flowers, and these umbrella wreaths full of pink tulips bring a cheerful touch of spring to the front door!

As you can see, I didn’t stop at the doors! The lawn may still be brown, and the trees may not have leaves yet, but one look at our porch and you know that spring has officially arrived!

Our mailbox shouts “Mail!” and now our front door shouts a warm “Hello!” thanks to an adorable turquoise doormat.

<img decoding="async" title="April showers bring may flowers, and these umbrella wreaths full of pink tulips bring a cheerful touch of spring to the front door!

I’m always drawn to the unique furniture at Hobby Lobby, and these white metal plant stands were one of the first things I spotted when I walked through the doors of the store a couple of weeks ago. I knew I wanted to use them on the porch, but since things always work better in threes, I decided to add this cute white metal chair to complete the grouping {the chair is also from Hobby Lobby, as is the pretty watercolor rose pillow}.

<img decoding="async" title="April showers bring may flowers, and these umbrella wreaths full of pink tulips bring a cheerful touch of spring to the front door!

I filled my glass flower pot with a collection of silk flowers left over from a variety of past projects. As the weather gets warmer, I’ll probably swap them out for real flowers, but for now, the faux version have a better chance of surviving the unpredictable Colorado spring weather. And I couldn’t pass up the pink chalkboard easel, which I’ll be able to use over and over again.

There’s one last thing I have to show you, because sometimes it’s the little details that bring a whole space together! The stone planter boxes on either side of our front stairs look pretty sad this time of year. As I was walking through the floral aisles of Hobby Lobby, a variety of green grass spheres and boxwood spheres caught my eye. I realized I could simply sit a few of each size inside the planter boxes to fake the look of spring until things start growing for real.

Just that little pop of spring green in the planter boxes makes such a big difference, don’t you think?!

<img decoding="async" title="April showers bring may flowers, and these umbrella wreaths full of pink tulips bring a cheerful touch of spring to the front door!

A few years back, I bought two small Christmas trees for our front steps, and I usually hang a wreath on each door, but this year the kids asked for some colored lights and decorations for the trees, so I knew it was time to step up my porch decor game a bit.

I teamed up with my friends over at Cost Plus World Market to create a simple and modern Christmas front porch that would fulfill my kids wishes without going overboard. I am excited to give you few quick sneak peeks, but you’ll have to head over to my guest post on the World Market Discover blog for all of the photos and details.

This colorful, retro-inspired porch decor is a great fit for the modern style of our home, but more importantly, the kids have given it two thumbs up!

I love Thanksgiving, but it’s a holiday that I have often skipped over when it comes to decorating because it gets so crunched between taking down the Halloween decorations and getting ready for Christmas. But this year, I’ve decided to give Thanksgiving its own moment! Today I’m talking about our welcoming front porch decor, but you might also want to check out this quick Thanksgiving table setting hack, and my finished Thanksgiving table decor.

I partnered with my friends over at Cost Plus World Market to create this cozy and welcoming front porch for Thanksgiving that blends seamlessly with the modern architecture of our home. What I love most about this design, however, is that it really is perfect for the entire fall season with just the Happy Thanksgiving banner being added after Halloween.

The tall, thin configuration of our porch has sometimes left me stumped when it comes to decorating for the seasons. We would bring home pumpkins from the pumpkin patch and they would look dwarfed by the two-story height of the porch. Over time, I’ve learned to get creative and find ways to add height and interest to our porch decor without making the space feel too crowded.

This porch decor is all about layers and a few unexpected elements that make the space extra warm and cozy for fall. Check out all the details of my “Naturally Modern” Thanksgiving front porch over on the World Market blog!

I recently partnered with Cost Plus World Market to create a colorful and festive Dia de los Muertos inspired look for our front porch. Today I’m over on their blog sharing all the photos, along with four tips to help you capture the festive spirit of this joyful holiday!

Although it often gets associated with Halloween, Dia de los Muertos {celebrated on November 1st and 2nd} is a unique holiday all its own. Two popular symbols of Dia de los Muertos are calacas and calaveras {skeletons and skulls}, but Dia de los Muertos is far from a day of mourning. Rather, it is a joyful, laughter-filled tribute to the memory of family and friends that have passed away.

<img decoding="async" class="aligncenter" title="A Dia de Los Muertos floral arrangement.

It is exactly that celebratory spirit that I tried to capture on my front porch by using vibrant colors and a variety of items from Cost Plus World Market’s Los Muertos Collection combined with a couple of simple DIYs. If you follow me on Instagram, then you caught a glimpse of one of those DIY’s a few weeks ago…
